Before we get your payment accounts set up you need to know about
passwords, how important they are and what you can do to protect access
to your earnings and accounts. There are lots of automated form filling
software packages available that will automatically store your
passwords and remember which password is for which site. However, as
with all technology they can be prone to glitches, so always keep a
hard copy somewhere, a cheap paper notebook will do, that way you are
ensuring access to your sites and programs, even in the event of a
technical error.
The first rule
is never ever use a default password. That means using the same
password for every account, program and site. If access to your
password is gained by anybody then all your accounts will be at risk.
If only one password gets compromised then only that account is at risk
until you correct the problem.
A good password consists of letters, numbers and special characters.
Lets take an example of using your name and date of birth to create one
password. Please note this is only for instructive purposes and you
must always choose your own passwords with care.
You could use your name as a password, ie;
steve brown
You could increase the security aspect of this by including your date of birth:
stevebrown01021970
So that becomes;
steve brown 01 02 1970
We can increase the security
even further by using special characters in place of certain numbers
and digits, I'll show you letter by letter, character by character;
$tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#i97o
So what we have done here is;
We use the Dollar sign instead of "s" so, s = $
We keep the "t" = $t
We use the Euro sign (you use this by pressing Ctrl and Alt together
whilst you press the number 4/$ key) instead of the "e" = $tĪ
We keep the "v" = $tĪv
We also substitute the next "e" with the Euro sign = $tĪvĪ
We keep the "b" = $tĪvĪb
We keep the "r" = $tĪvĪbr
We use the number zero "0" instead of the letter "o" = StĪvĪbr0
We keep the "w" = $tĪvĪbr0w
We keep the "n" = $tĪvĪbr0wn
We then use a special character to separate the name from the date of birth = $tĪvĪbr0wn*
We then use the letter "o" instead of the number "0" = $tĪvĪbr0wn*o
We then use the letter "i" instead of the number "1" = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi
We then separate the next set of digits with another special character = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/
We then use the letter "o" instead of the number "0" again = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o
We then keep the "2" = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2
We then separate the next set of digits with another special character = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#
We then use "i" instead of "1" again = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#i
We keep the 9 = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#i9
We keep the 7 = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#i97
We then use the letter "o" instead for the number "0" again = $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#i97o
So you can see we have greatly
improved the password security, even using an easy to remember phrase
of your name and date of birth.
stevebrown01021970 becomes $tĪvĪbr0wn*oi/o2#i97o
Some other useful substitutions you can use are,
a = @
b = 8
c = (
e = Ī
f = Ģ
g = ?
h = #
i = 1
l = !
n = ^
o = 0
s = $
t = 7
Please do not under estimate
the value of a different, secure and unique password for each site and
program. Their have been countless people that have lost funds due to
account hacking, through a common or obvious password and unfortunately
there will be many more, please do all you can to make sure that you
are not one of them.
